Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Vishwanath Shetty stabbed in his office – Accused Tejraj Sharma arrested.
In a shocking incident, Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Vishwanath Shetty was stabbed by a knife-wielding man thrice in his office on Wednesday afternoon. He has been admitted in the ICU of Mallya hospital.
Karnataka Lokayukta P. Vishwanath Shetty was stabbed in his office on Wednesday afternoon.The assailant has been identified as Tejraj Sharma. He is said to be an advocate, based on his entry in the register at the Lokayukta’s office.
According to preliminary reports, the accused named Tejraj Sharma has been taken into custody by the Vidhana Soudha police.
Metal detector was not working .
Reports says the accused went with knife in the office as the metal detector installed at the Lokayukta office was not working so the accused easily went inside with knife.
Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage of the office. The accused reportedly went inside the office by claiming he wanted to speak to the Lokayukta.
Sources said Sharma entered the office on the pretext of lodging a complaint. Five minutes later, the staff outside heard screams. When they rushed in, they found Mr. Shetty, who was stabbed thrice, in a pool of blood and rushed him to the nearby Mallya Hospital. Doctors confirmed to The Hindu that Mr. Shetty’s condition was now stable.Police overpowered Sharma and took him into custody. They are trying to ascertain the reason for the attack.Upa Lokayukta Subhash B. Adi was not present at the office at the time of the attack, the sources added.
Former Lokayukta Santhosh Hegde described the attack as an unfortunate incident and said it was a security failure. “There’s a metal detector and the police is supposed to use a hand-held metal detector to frisk to visitors. In this case, they have clearly not done it,” he said.
Eyewitness Jay anna told media persons that One person attempted to murder the judge.He hit him 3 times with his knife.The judge fell on the floor. So you can see what kind of security Siddaramaiah government has provided us. Situation is very bad he said .

Karnataka Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah with other senior leaders and senior officers who visited Mallya Hospital to see justice P Vishwanath Shetty, after speaking to doctors,Siddaramaiah addressing the media said that,The accused came to meet Lokayukta.He was alone,he went inside to meet lokayukta.He stabbed him there.Justice fell down and screamed for help as gunman was outside then immediately went inside and the jurisdictional police rushed and overpowered accused and secured him.Doctors are treating him.He is said to be out of danger.The accused has been identified as Tejraj Sharma he is from Tumakuru he added .
Brijesh Kalappa tweeted,Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Vishwanath Shetty who was stabbed by an unknown miscreant is one of India’s finest Judges. He had an open door policy and just about anyone could walk in and expect their grievances to be ventilated through him.
Doctors at Mallya Hospital said that he is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit and is out of danger senior doctors told media persons.
Shetty had taken charge as the Lokayukta in January, 2017.
