German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to visit India

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Büdenbender, will travel to India from 21st – 26th March for a state visit.

This visit to India shall highlight the very good development of our bilateral relations in recent years. As part of the state visit, the President and Mrs. Büdenbender will be officially welcomed by President Kovind and his wife in New Delhi.

There, the German Head of State will talk with Prime Minister Modi and other high-ranking politicians such as Vice President Naidu and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj. In addition, the German President holds talks with representatives of Indian civil society, science and industry.

At the beginning of his trip, the President will fly to Varanasi, where he will visit the Museum in Sarnath and a Buddhist temple. Afterwards he will meet students of Banares Hindu University and attend the Ganga Aarti. In addition, the German Head of State and his wife will visit the Friday mosque Jama Masjid in New Delhi.

On 23rd March the German President will deliver a speech on “India and Germany – Ideas and Perspectives” at the University of Delhi. During a visit to the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, the President will learn about the results of top Indian research.

Another destination of the state visit is Chennai, an important location of the German business in India. The President will visit production and training at Daimler India Commercial Vehicles and will also pay a visit to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Madras Research Park, an important starting point for modern German-Indian technological cooperation.
