The first pure Skills University BSDU today organized a one-day workshop on Indigenization for Imports substation. Twenty nineSenior Delegates from various PSUs like Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), Hindustan Shipyard Ltd, Ordinance Factory Board, Goa Shipyard Ltd, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, Mazagon Dock Shipyard Ltd, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Indian Air force, DGAQA, GRSE, Indian Navy participated in the workshop.
Officials visited university campus as well as RS India (Precision tool manufacturing facility). The motive was to showcase Skills Education module of BSDU where students first get skills training from BSDU and then progress on to work for industries like RS India.
Mr. Jayant Joshi, Managing Director, RS India said, “BSDU-RS India showcased capabilities to support R&D, indigenization and import substitution for Aerospace and defence services where it can help PSUs with prototype manufacturing, manufacturing of components with drawings and process layout along with tools.”
Ms. Smita Purshottam, Ex-Ambassador to Switzerlandsaid, “Importance of indigenization in India is one of the key factors which should be addressed immediately. Highlighting Indian share of GDP in 2016, services being 55% is producing 161 Billion US$ whereas manufacturing being 16% is producing 180 Billion US$.”Concluding her presentation, she said, “India’s economy is considered to be services led whereas it seems it is manufacturing deficient.”She suggested that India can domestically source defence aircrafts, electronics, telecom, and rail equipments.
Dr. (Brig.) Surjit Singh Pabla, President BSDU, said,“The idea of arranging this one-day seminar cum workshop is seen as a great opportunity to showcase Bhartiya Skill Development University and RS India (Precision parts manufacturing facility) to the most forward looking PSUs to help substantially change the Indian economy in coming years.”
