The exorbitant interest charged by unscrupulous money lenders is called Meter Baadi,colloquially it is a problem that has been plaguing Bengaluru for a long while and the CCB sleuths stepped into curb the menace.
Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths have cracked down on financiers who harassed public by charging exorbitant interest rates.
Nine financiers including two women have been arrested.They seized Rs 69.9 lakh cash,documents related to various properties and blank cheques from them.
The accused has been identified as Manjunath alias Miracle Manjunath,30,of Kamakshipalya,Bhaskar,60,and his son Dileep,33,of Mico Layout,Velu alias City Market Velu alias Bathroom Velu,35,a rowdy-sheeter of City Market, M.G.Subramni of Hanumanthanagar,Sathish of Byatarayanapura,Jayamma, Krishnamma, Venkatesh and Lingaraju,all residents of Chandra Layout.

Bengaluru city police commissioner,T. Suneel Kumar told media persons, that as per the direction by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Dr G.Parameshwara who has directed all the senior police officials during his recent visit to City Market as many shop vendors and public has complained to Home Minister regarding the exorbitant interest rates and harassment by some people who lent money to them they are being exploited by illegal money lenders so as many as 14 teams of the CCB led by Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar,under the supervison of DCPs as,Girish.S,and Jinendra Kanagavi with 13 ACPs and 30 inspectors of CCB swung into action and conducted a massive and simultaneous raids on the houses of financiers in the early morning of Wednesday.The search operations by the team continued till late in the afternoon the simultaneous raids by the special team were carried out at 15 different places starting at City Market,Kamakshipalaya,Mico Layout, Jayanagar,Hanumanthanagar, Byatarayanapura,and in Chandra Layout the team has recovered Rs.69.9 lakhs in cash from their possession,apart from that the sleuths raided the house of Manjunath alias Miracle Manja in Vrishabhavathi Nagar and seized 28 blank cheques collected from those to whom he had lent loan.Besides, documents including registration paper of four residential sites were seized from him.A father and son, who were lending money against daily interest, were arrested from their house in BTM Layout.Bhaskar and his son Dileep were arrested and Rs.33.50 lakh cash was seized.History-sheeter Velu,who has also produced a few Kannada movies,was arrested in City Market police station limits and documents including five sale deeds were seized from him.Two women financiers,Jayamma of Moodalapalya and Krishnamma of Chandra Layout,were also arrested.Three cars,19 cheques and other documents were seized from Jayamma.The others arrested are Venkatesh, Lingaraju, both residents of Panchasheelanagar in Chandra Layout,and Subramani,a resident of Hanumanthanagar.CCB sleuths seized Rs.33 lakh cash from Subramani,apart from the cash the CCB sleuths recovered 258 blank cheques,52 demand notes,five four-wheelers,two two-wheelers,11 property documents,25 e-stamp papers,13 bond papers,14 loan agreements,10 GPAs-General Power of Attorney) and documents of seven vehicles has been seized from them.One of the accused identified as Chetan from Jayanagar is said to have been absconded and manhunt is on for the absconded accused.Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused used to collect 5-15% interest for a month from innocent people,which amounts to 60-180% per annum,Action against jurisdictional police
For alleged colluding with illegal financiers, and we will initiate strict action against jurisdictional inspector for failing to avoid illegal activities in their jurisdiction.As recently the CCB had conducted several raids on gambling dens,clubs,pubs and illegal financiers in city.I have sought explanation from concerned deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) as to why the jurisdictional Assistant Police Commissioner ACPs, and Inspectors of their respective jurisdiction has failed to control those illegal activities.Action will be taken once I get reply from the DCPs,and finally Bengaluru Police commissioner has warned all the rowdies to stop all their illegal activities and lead a new life or else we will act on you and those who are still involved in illegal activities like extortion and harrasing innocent people and collection haftas will be booked under KCOCA Act and cases has been registered against these money lenders and further investigation is on and finally Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Dr G.Parameshwara,has appreciated,Bengaluru Police Commissioner,T.Suneel Kumar,Addl CP,Crime,Alok Kumar,DCPs as,Girish.S,Jinendra Kanagavi,ACPs as,Subramani,Mariyappa,B.S.
