HQ SWAC CONDUCTS CYCLE EXPEDITION ON WORLD BICYCLE DAY

To Commemorate the birth centenary of MIAF Arjan Singh DFC, and to mark

the ‘World Bicycle Day’’, HQ SWAC, Gandhinagar conducted a cycling event on 03 Jun 19. MIAF

was a keen sportsman and strived to promote sports amongst armed forces

personnel throughout his illustrious career spanning nearly eight decades. The event

was aimed at promoting the bicycle as an means of affordable and eco friendly

means of transportation which strengthens physical and mental health, and develops

a culture of cycling in society. A team of more than fifty personnel of HQ SWAC

cycled around Gandhinagar for over 21 km.

Air Marshal HS Arora, AVSM ADC, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South

Western Air Command, Gandhinagar flagged in the Cycling Team at Vayu Shakti

Nagar. He exhorted that cycling is fun, cycling is healthy, cycling is exciting and of all

means of transportation, it is most benign for the environment. The Air Marshal also

stressed on the multiple benefits of cycling which including that bicycle is simple,

affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally suitable for climate. Accordingly,

cycling is healthy, cost-effective and provides improved access to education for poor,

health and fitness, and enhancement of awareness about the local environment

amongst all air warriors and society at large
