NEW DELHI, August 1—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee spokespersons Shri Ramakant Goswami, Shri Jitender Kumar Kochar (Jitu) and Shri Harnam Singh demanded that the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi should give free electricity to the people of Delhi for at least one year for collecting crores of rupees from them on account of fixed charges and pension fund for the past one and a half years.
The DPCC spokespersons said that Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal’s announcement today that those who consume electricity up to 200 units will not be charged any tariff was totally inadequate as the DISCOMS had looted the citizens of Delhi for the past one and a half years on the fixed charges and pension fund heads. They said that it was yet another election gimmick by the Kejriwal Government after making some nominal cuts in the power tariff yesterday with an eye on the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
Shri Goswami, a former Delhi Minister, Shri Jitender Kumar Kochar and Shri Harnam Singh said that when a Congress delegation, under the leadership of late DPCC president Smt. Sheila Dikshit had met Shri Kejriwal at his residence on 12thJune, 2019, she had requested the Chief Minister not to charge any power tariff from the citizens of Delhi for the next six months, or adjust the crores of rupees the power companies had collected in the name of fixed charges and pension fund against their bills. They said it was victory for the late Smt. Sheila Dikshit as Kejriwal was forced to take a decision in favour of the power consumers. (A copy of the memorandum submitted to Shri Kejriwal is enclosed).
They said that Kejriwal has now woken up to the reality that the DISCOMS had been fleecing the power consumers of Delhi all this while, and his announcement of free power up to 200 units in Delhi was poor consolation for the people of Delhi.
The DPCC spokespersons said that the Kejriwal Government is indulging in election gimmicks by announcing free doles to the power consumers now to fool them. The DPCC spokespersons reiterated their demand that the AAP Government should not charge any power tariff from the people of Delhi for the next one year to compensate them for loot committed by the DISCOMS for the past one and a half years.
