CAA has nothing to do with people already holding the Indian citizenship. Rather there is a provision to provide citizenship to the people of minority communities who came from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan- Meenakshi Lekhi

New Delhi, 29th December.   Yesterday National Spokesperson and New Delhi MP Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi addressed the people gathered at Safderjung Club, New Delhi. There was an Interaction programme in support of CAA wherein large number of local residents participated.

Addressing the audience Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi said that we need to understand what CAA is all about and why some people with malicious agenda are intentionally misleading the people for their own political gain.  We have seen in history that persecuted people have taken refuge in India. Pakistan always talks about human rights violations but never does right things for the betterment of the society.

She recalled how families came to India at time of partition. Today in Pakistan the population of minorities is just 3% which is drastically down from 23%. In India population of minorities have risen from time of Independence but still certain people have the audacity to question us but not Pakistan. Going back to partition, Smt. Lekhi reminded of the 1950 Nehru-Liaquat Pact to the Congress, saying that both the leaders had assured that India and Pakistan will protect the minority communities. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan persecuted the minority communities on the basis of religion. However, India followed the agreement with trust.

She elaborated that our government has done nothing wrong and explained to all that CAA has nothing to do with people already holding the Indian citizenship, rather there is a provision to provide citizenship to the people of minority communities who came from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. We should not believe in rumors and spoil the peace of the country. Unnecessarily there has been a brazen attempt to derail the image of India at global level by those involved in corrupt practices. She said even today anyone.
