Police inspector,3 other Police personnel accused of ‘Harrasing’ woman in custody

The then Police Inspector, Bharath of Vijayanagar police station and three of his junior in the team are in the dock, after an FIR filed against them for allegedly harassing a woman who was in their custody in connection with a cheating case in june last year .

The victim,aged about 42 years and resident of 4th main vijayanagar approached the then city police commissioner,DCP and the state women’s commission ,but went in vain.

Failed to get any response,the victim approached the court and filed a private complaint against the inspector and his team.

The court directed the police to file a case based on which FIR has been filed against Inspector Bharath,PSI,Santosh Kumar,Woman PSI, Akshatha, and Head Constable Lingaraju.

The accused officials have been charged with assault or criminal force with an intent to disrobe ( 354b),wrongful restrain, (341),assault or criminal force on grave provocation, (352),wrongful confinement,(220) ,outraging the modesty ,(354) and criminal intimidation ( 506 ) against them.

The victim in her complaint,the complainant said that the accused police officers summoned her to the station on June 14th last year at around 8 .15 pm along with her sons and arrested her in a cheating case filed against her .

The next day,they took her and one of her son to the court for physical production and taken for seven days custody for questioning .

The police lied to the court about the date of the arrest stated that she had been arrested on June 15.

However after bringing her to the station the accused officers allegedly abused, assaulted,threatened and even forced to sign her in few blank papers .

The police even threatened to foist false cases against her sons if she did not agree to whatever they say and also threatened not to reveal this to anyone .

The complainant even said that the police did nor provided any facilities due to women at the custody and not even provided her medical check up which she needed .

Though there was a woman police officer,she helped her male counterparts rather than objecting to the harassment meted out to her she said in her complaint.

However police officials refuted the allegation and clarified that they have followed the due procedure while carrying out the formalities .

There was an Cheating case booked against the accused in june 14 2019 for cheating her acquaintance with Rs 45 lakh,promising a site .

After faiing to get back the money, Sriram, 41,has filed a cheating complaint against her and her two sons .
