Dr. Umesh Sharma was elected as President of Veterinary Council of India (VCI), the Apex council of the Veterinary doctors which regulates veterinary education and practice in India on 15/1/2020. Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying called for a meeting from 2:30 PM on 15th January at VCI Building, A-Wing , IInd Floor, August Kranti Bhawan, Bhikaji Kama Place, New Delhi, Delhi 110066 to elect president and vice president as per the provision of Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984. Earlier Dr. Sharma and his team won the massive election where veterinary doctors all over the country exercised their vote electronically for the first time. Subsequently election among 26 members all over the country elected Dr. Umesh Sharma as President VCI. Dr. Pradeep Jadav was elected as vice president of the council. Dr. Sharma is also the President of Indian Veterinary Association (IVA). Dr Vijay Kumar, Treasurer IVA said” Dr. Sharma is an able leader and I would congratulate him for being elected in the prestigious post of President, IVA. Dr. Dipankar Seth, Zonal Secretary, IVA said” Veterinarians all over the country is looking forward at Dr. Sharma and his second tenure as VCI president would not only be important for veterinarians but also for farmers related to animal husbandry”.
To celebrate the occasion Delhi Veterinary Association (DVA), which is an affiliated association of Indian veterinary Association hosted an interaction cum dinner event with the newly elected body. Selected elite Veterinarians form all over the country was present in the interaction program from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM which was followed by dinner. Dr. Yaspal Singh, General Secretary, DVA said” DVA whole heartedly supported Dr. Sharma and would like to facilitate him and on his team on the occasion. DAV is happy to provide a platform to for elite vets to interact with the newly elected body”. Dr Satis Dabas, President DVA said “This kind of interaction program would enrich both the groups and would help in policy decision so that farmers associated with animal husbandry would be benefited”. The tenure of the VCI members is for 3 years. Dr. Sharma who will be heading the council for the second time will continue as President VCI form 15th January 2021 onward.
