The South Division police of Girinagar police opened fire and arrested a notorious offender who is on the run after attacking a constable in a bid to escape in the wee hours of Monday.
The accused has been identified as,Vijay Kumar alias Gonne Viji having 19 criminal cases pending against him.
Senior officers told media persons,the accused had stabbed a man in October last year for objecting him drag racing on the road.The police traced and arrested him in chennai and remanded to judicial custody.
After coming out of bail, last week,Viji started to extort money from people at knife point.
Based on complaints,the Girinagar police formed a team who tracked him down near an isolated place in Veerabhadranagar area .
The police rushed to the spot surrounded the area asking Viji to surrender but in a bid to escape Viji attacked constable Madhu with dagger and tried to flee.
PSI,Vinay who was at spot warned him to surrender and opened one round fire in air as the accused again tried to attack the PSI and staff in self defense PSI Vinay Kumar opened one more round fire on the accused leg and injured him.Both the injured have later been shifted to private hospital where they are recovering.
The Girinagar police have also registered a case of assaulting public servant against the accused Viji and further investigation is on.
Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant,has appreciated,Addl CP West,Soumendhu Mukherjee,DCP South,Harish Pandey,ACP, Srinivasmurthy,PI,Kulkarni, PSI,Vinay Kumar and staff as Madhu and others a special appreciation to PSI,Vinay Kumar and crime staff Madhu who has played on their life and nabbed the notorious offender and a suitable reward will be given to the team he added.
