The North Division police of Rajagopalnagar police opened fire at a 22-year-old habitual offender while he attacked a policeman in a bid to escape from being arrested in GKW layout in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as,Santosh@Illikutti,a resident of Basappa Katte in Rajagopalnagar.
The accused is having ten criminal cases pending against him including the murder case of Sreenivas alias Seena,a police informant.
Senior officer told media persons that the team who were on search for the accused got a tip off about Santosh’s hide out in GKW Layout along with his associate.
Acting on tip-off a team headed by police sub-inspector Hanumantha Hadimani rushed to the spot to nab the miscreants.Around 5 am,the accused were traced.
Siddarama,a head constable went to detain Santosh but to evade arrest Santosh took a long machete and attacked on the right hand of our constable.
Sub-Inspector,Hadimani who was at spot first opened one round fire in air and asked the accused to surrender but the accused dint budge and tried again attacking sub- Inspector and staff later shot in the right leg to stop him from escape.
Both the Injured Santosh and Siddaram were rushed to Victoria hospital for treatment,both are out of risk to their lives.
Investigation revealed that Santosh was involved in 10 cases including murder, attempt to murder, assault and preparation for dacoity in Rajagopalnagar,Nandini Layout and Byadarahalli police station limits a case has been registered against the accused charging him attempt to Murder in the jurisdiction police station limits and further investigation is on.
Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,Kamal Pant,has appreciated,Addl CP West,Soumendhu Mukherjee,DCP North, Dharmendra Kumar Meena,ACP, Sreenivas Murthy,PI,PSI,Hanumantha Hadimani and staff as,Siddarama and other staff has been appreciated for the exemplary work done by them who has played on their life and nabbed the absconding Notorious accused he addded.
