online frauds on the rise targeting family members of covid patients who are desperately searching for the life saving drugs online.
Sawood Khan,a 21-year-old youth from Gurappanapalya is the latest victim who was cheated by a man who offered to sell Amphotericin B liposomal injection which he was looking to get for his father who was suffering from fungal infection.
In his complaint to the police,on Sunday,Sawood said that his father was admitted to Manipal hospital and suffering from infection.the doctors asked him to arrange for the injection which they did not have in the store .
Sawood searched for the injection online and one of his friend in the neighbourhood helped him to get in touch with the conman who claimed to be from a pharma company from Agartala and asked him to deposit Rs 2,38,048 for the dose.
Sawood arranged the money and used his cousin’s bank account to transfer the same.
As soon as the money was transferred the accused switched off his phone and did not respond .
Based on the complaint the police are now trying to trace the accused while sawood continues to look for the medicine for his father and further investigation is on to trace the conman.
In another case a women was cheated for the amount of Rs.11 lakhs who deposited online payment to procure injection for her husband who was infected with Black fungus.
Two separate cases has been registered and a massive manhunt is on to trace the fraudster and further investigation is on said a senior officer.
