Software engineer duped of Rs 37.3 lakh in datting app

A 45-year-old software engineer became the latest victim of the cybercrime frauds and lost Rs. 37.3 lakh when he was promised to get premium membership in the dating app .

The victim,Raghupathy,from Sevanagar in Kammanahalli while browsing the net came across the online dating app and tried to enroll as a member in December last year.

Some unidentified person claiming to be from the dating website called and lured him to pay for the membership and since then he started paying money towards various fees from his SBI account.He even spent all his savings and even borrowed money from his friend to pay until April 2021.

He soon realized that he had been duped and when his friends started pestering him to repay the money,Raghupathy approached the East division Cyber crime police and filed a complaint .

The police have obtained the account details where the money was transfered online and efforts are on to track down the accused .

In a similar incident,A 26-year-old private firm employee was trapped by his female Facebook friend who lured him into private talk,recorded the conversation and extorted Rs 51,000 from him.
When the demand for the ransom increased , unable to bear the harassment,the victim  ( Deepak S ),from Munekolala approached the white field cyber crime police and filed a complaint on Tuesday.

In his complaint the victim said that he became friends with the woman on Facebook in May this year and shared the numbers.

The duo soon began to chat in private and forced him to disrobe .

However, without his knowledge the woman recorded the chats and later started blackmailing, threatening to upload the videos and also share them among his friends .

Fearing his reputation is at stake he transferred Rs 51,000 to her goodpay account.The whitefield police are now trying to track down the accused based on details of where the money was transferred .

It may be recalled that the whitefield cyber crime police busted a similar racket and arrested two persons from Rajasthan in April for blackmailing and extorting money from a 26-year-old IAS aspirant by trapping him online and recording his nude videos.
