A freak accident took place in Bengaluru late last night killing seven people.A speeding Audi Q3 SUV went out of control and climbed onto the walkway bollards before colliding into a Punjab National Bank branch housed in a building in Bengaluru’s Koramangala.
The accident reportedly took place on an 80-foot road between 1 and 2 am late night.
The impact of the accident was such that six of them died on the spot and one succumbed on the way to hospital.
The deceased were identified as Karuna Sagar (28),son of DMK MLA from Hosur constituency,Y Prakash,his wife Dr Bindu,daughter-in-law of MLA Prakash,Ishita (21),Dr Dhanusha (21),Akshay Goyal (23),Utsav and Rohith (23).
Seven people–three women and four men–were killed in a road accident at Koramangala early Tuesday morning. One of the deceased was identified as DMK MLA from Hosur Y Prakash’s son, Karunaa Sagar.
According to the police,the SUV they were travelling in jumped onto the footpath and rammed into the compound wall of a bank when the driver lost control of the wheel.
Around 1.30-2 am,the driver lost control of the wheel.The SUV hit the wall with such intensity and speed that it was completely damaged.
Though it was a five-seater,there were seven people in the car.The entire incident was recorded on CCTVs in the area,said a investigation officer.
According to sources, the MLA’s son,Karunaa Sagar was returning home as he came to Bengaluru to purchase medicine and was heading to Hosur when the incident occured.
Soon after the accident,employees of a hotel in the vicinity and a few passers-by extricated the passengers from the car before alerting the Adugodi police.
Eye-witnesses said they saw smoke coming out from the engine and doused it.The passengers were trapped inside the mangled vehicle.They had to use force to open the doors and get them out,said a police source.
The passengers were taken to a hospital. According to eyewitnesses,one person appeared to be alive.However,all seven were declared dead on arrival.Senior police officials visited the spot to supervise the investigation and are waiting for the medical reports.
Joint Commissioner for Traffic, Dr BR Ravikanthe Gowda, DCP Traffic East, Shantharaju M,visited the spot and said,The accident has taken place due to negligent and rash driving.An investigation will be conducted by a team headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police.
It is yet to be ascertained whether the driver drove the car in an inebriated state.The driver had lost control of the speeding car,which had rammed into the electric pole on the footpath and later dashed into the wall of the Punjab National Bank building.
The vehicle involved in the accident was registered in the name of Sanjeevini Blue Metal Company.The investigation is on he added.
