The North Division police of Yeshwanthpur police has arrested a 38-year old woman from Andhra Pradesh on charges of theft and robbery who robed innocent people with her boyfriend on the pretext of visiting temple as devotee.
Senior officer told media persons,Alert crime police team attached to Yeshwanthpur police on Monday caught a 38-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh who had stolen a handbag from family in a hotel in Tirupati containing 439 grams of gold jewels worth Rs 20.2 lakh in July this year.
The accused along with her boyfriend came to Bengaluru and lived in Laggere in a rented house to pawn the valuables one by one to lead a lavish life .
However luck ran out for them when the accused was caught by Vittal Kumar,Head constable and his colleague constable Dattatreya,who were on rounds and noticed the couple moving suspiciously near a jewel shop on Yeshwanthpur main road .
While the man escaped the police caught the woman and upon verifying her handbag recovered 10 receipts of pawned gold from various gold shops across the city along with 4 grams of gold valuables .
A detailed questioning led the accused to confess to the crime following which the police recovered the valuables and in touch with the Tirupati counterparts to get the details of the rightful owners of the valuables.
The accused told the police that her husband had died two years ago and her boyfriend proposed to marry her in Tirupathi.
The duo went to Kukke Subramanya to visit the temple and from there went to Tirupati to get married .While having lunch at a hotel they noticed a family sitting next to them kept the handbag carelessly.
The couple stole the bag and found around 439.2 grams of gold valuables.They decided to come to Bengaluru and rented a house in Laggere and started to pawn gold jewels one by one and spent the money lavishly.
The police are now on the lookout of the man who is now on the run and further investigation is on.
