The Hennur police on Wednesday arrested a 34-year-old conman who posed as a civil engineer used to cheat women on matrimonial sites.
Based on a complaint filed by a city based nurse recently,A special police team was formed to tracked down the accused and recovered gold valuables and a car worth Rs 5.8 lakh from him.
The police also recovered five mobile phones and 20 SIM cards the accused was using to cheat gullible women especially those who are divorced and enrolled in the matrimony website for second marriage .
During investigations it is revealed that the accused has been identified as Jagannath from Bijapura but used many alias names like Rakesh, Suresh,Vijay and others to lure women.
He would contact them stating that he liked their profile and invited them for a meeting.Though sweet talks he would lure them and proposed to marry before gaining their confidence.
He would take the victims to hotels and restaurants and even for a short jolly ride to gain their confidence.
After realising that the victim trusts them he would seek financial help citing emergency situations and once getting their money or gold from them,he would switch off the mobile and escape .
Using this modus operandi,the accused is said to have duped as many as ten women in the city.He was earlier arrested by Banashankari police in a similar case,but after coming out on bail he continued his activities,Dr.SD Sharanappa,DCP, East division,said.The accused has been taken into custody for further questioning.
