At least seven people were killed and several others injured when a jeep and a lorry collided at Madinayakanahalli in Chintamani taluk in Chikballapur.
Police sources said that two women and four men were among the dead.The accident was so severe that six passengers in the jeep died on the spot.
seven among the injured admitted in the hospital said to be critical and being treated at ICU at Chintamani general hospital.The deceased hailed from Srinivapura taluk.
Death toll may increase
According to the senior officer,more people were injured in the accident and are being treated at the hospital.The condition of the injured is said to be critical.
He said the death toll could rise.Several senior police officers reached the spot after getting the news of the accident.
Chintamani MLA JK Krishna Reddy has visited the spot.It is said that the jeep was going from Rayalpadu to Chintamani while the lorry was going from Bangalore to Nellore.The accident happened on the Bangalore-Kadapa road.
The jeep, which allegedly had 15 people aboard, was moving towards Chintamani taluk from Rayalpadu in Srinivasapura taluk,when hit by the cement-laden truck,whose driver had lost control.
While six people died on the spot,another succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.
JD-S MLA M Krishna Reddy rushed to the spot and held RTO officers responsible for the incident by allowing to jeeps in the area to carry excess passengers.
According to eye witnesses, as many as 15 people were travelling in the jeep.None of the RTO officers are available.I have instructed police to look into the issue.Who gave a permission for the jeep to carry 15 passengers,
he asked.
A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
