Hours after building collapse incident in Lakkasandra on Monday morning,the Adugodi police have taken up a suo-motu case against the building owner charging him for negligence and endangering lives of others.
According to police the owner of the building , reportedly on the run and efforts are on to trace him.A three-story building belonging to a person identified as,Suresh and Rathnamma.
Luckily no one hurt as all the occupants of the building had come out hour before it collapsed., A senior police officer,said.
The residents also ensured that the people staying in the adjacent buildings are also evacuated from their houses.
They had not even parked any vehicle in the surrounding area.The timely and quick thinking of local residents resulted in no injuries or no damage.
The building is located on the 7th main road in Lakkasandra.It is at least over 60 years old. The local residents had complained to police and fire and emergency officials about the cracks on the building.
Around 20 labourer families working in Namma Metro construction site were staying in the building for at least the last six months.But, no one was injured.
Adugodi police also reached the spot and evacuated the public from nearby areas.The building collapsed around 11.30 am.
Suresh and his family were earlier residing in the same building and they vacated two years ago. The building was vacant for almost two years. But, recently he rented the building for the labourers.
The labourers noticed the bricks falling from the building and plastering coming off since Sunday. They realised it may fall at any movement and hence decided to come out on Monday morning.
No one was inside or near the building when it collapsed, so there are no injuries. The owner or the building made mistake to rent a bad conditioned building to labourers.
Following which we have taken up a suo-motu case under IPC section 336 -whoever does any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others and are investigating further,said a senior officer.
BMRCL Chief PRO,said in a clarification,This is with regard to the Lakkasandra building collapse at around 11.00 am today.
BMRCL wishes to clarify that this building was being occupied by about 22 Labourers working for the Underground stretch.
Cracks were observed in the basement and the labourers were shifted immediately from the building.No labourer belonging to the Metro works contractor were injured he said in his statement.
