A free Health Check-up Camp on the occasion of World Heart Day was inaugurated by BBMP chief Commissioner,Gaurav Gupta and Dr C.N.Manjunath,Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, at Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital today,BBMP special commissioners D. Randeep, Dr Harish Kumar, Joint Commissioner Sarfaraz Khan, Chief Health Officer Dr Nirmala Buggi and other officials were present.
The camp was organised under NUHM programme,jointly by BBMP and Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, to diagnose heart,diabetes and cancer and other health problems.
Chief Commissioner,Gaurav Gupta called on people to make use of the free health check-up camp.
The camp is set up especially for people from slums around JJR Nagar,the poor and pourakarmikas.
Various assessments and tests including temperature and respiratory rate,BP,height, weight,blood test,ECG,and cardiovascular examination,are being done at the camp, informed Gaurav Gupta.
Only when everyone follows the advice of the doctor regarding daily walking,eating good food, and quitting smoking and drinking can they be healthy without any ailments.Therefore everyone should follow the doctors’ advice, he said.
Director Dr CN Manjunath, speaking on the occasion, said that it has been decided to provide a cardiac check-up facility for pourakarmikas above the age of 45 for free in a phased manner. He said the heart checkup would be conducted once a week.
World heart day aims to create awareness about the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and taking care of the heart.
Due to a lifestyle change,people between 25-40 have been encountering cardiovascular diseases. Heart-related diseases, which were about 3-4% earlier have raised to 8%. Smoking and tobacco are the leading causes of cardiovascular disease.
One can prevent heart-related diseases if one can keep blood pressure, blood sugar,blood cholesterol, body weight in check and reduce stress, he said.
JJR Nagar Referral Hospital,which has been upgraded,offers all kinds of health checkups required. Four underprivileged people each ward are offered free heart surgery through Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in the past four years,he informed.
