The North Division police of peenya police on Monday arrested a 24-year-old site engineer of a telecom company for stealing 19 UBBP (universal baseband processing)cards from mobile towers across the city to earn money .
The accused has been identified as,Gangadhar was caught red handed during ransom vehicle check up by police following a complaint from the company that someone is stealing the UBBP cards from their towers.
Senior officer told reporters,Based on the complaint,the Peenya police analyzed the CCTV footage from in and around the tower and zeroed in on Gangadhar who used to visit the tower on his bike in the wee hours and take away the cards .
The police step up vigil and on Monday caught him near Chokkasandra and recovered two cards from his pant pocket worth Rs 3 lakh which he had stolen recently .
Based on his information the police raided his house and recovered 12 cards from him and later seized seven cards which the accused has sold it to the junk shop for Rs 500 each.
A detailed inquiry revealed that Gangadhar a native of Gulbarga and ITI graduate worked as site engineer for the company for two years before he was terminated from service during corona.
Jobless and unable to take care Gangadhar made futile attempt to find a job before started stealing the UBBP cards and selling it to the junk shop for throwaway prices to get easy money .
With his arrest the police have solved as many as nine theft cases and recovered 19 UBBP cards worth Rs 30 lakh,from him.
The accused has been booked under theft charges and remanded to judicial custody.
