The North Division police of Mahalakshmi layout police are on the lookout for a gang who posing as IT officials abducted onion merchant in a bid to extort money from him citing tax evasion on Thursday.
Senior police officer said that,the onion merchant identified as Srinivasa having his shop in APMC yard,returning home in a car when the gang posing as IT officers intercepted in a car forced him into their car and sped away towards Chikkajala.
On the way the officials showed him.Few bank statements accusing him lf evading income tax and demanded Rs.50 lakh to close the case.
The accused assaulted him when Srinivasa asked them to issue him notice abd he will fight the case.
The accused negotiated the amount from Rs.50 lakh to Rs.20 lakh and demanded Rs.5 lakh as initial pay.
The victim sought time of one day to arrange the money following which the accused dropped him near Mekhri circle in hebbal and went away warning to get the money ready.
Srinivas immediately informed the police and filed a complaint with the jurisdictional Mahalakshmi layout police station.
Based on the complaint the police analysed the CCTV footage and obtain vital clues on the accused .
We have got definate clues on the accused and efforts are on to track them,a senior police officer,said and investigation is on.
