Panic was gripped among the people and shop keepers of BVK Iyenger road when they found an abandoned suitcase at the boot space of a scooter and another trolley bag near by on Wednesday afternoon.
Whole area was cordoned off by local Police as City Market inspector,BG Kumaraswamy,and his team immediately rushed to spot and got all the shops and other establishments closed for the precautionary measures and safety of others.
Additional police force from neighbouring stations were called in inspectors,as,Praveen KY,Chethan kumar,GT Sreenivas,Lokhapur,CB Shivaswamy and other staffs were called in as it is a crowded place and electric and cloth market.
Senior officers as,Addl CP West,Soumendhu Mukherjee,DCP West,Dr Sanjeev M Patil,ACP, P Ravikumar and others visited the spot and after inspecting the spot and taking stock of the situation.
He said,At around 1.25 pm,the shop keepers found a suspicious black suitcase kept on the scooter belonging to the shop owner.
As no one picked it up for a while,they grew suspicious and alerted the police.The police rushed to the spot and while inspecting the scene,they found another unattended black trolley bag placed next to a tempo traveller on the other side of the road.
Soon,they cordoned off the area and asked the shop keepers to close the shops and moved them out of the cordoned off area.
The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad was pressed into service. After a thorough check, the police decided not to open the bags there as the area was crowded.
In zero traffic,they took the suspicious materials to Freedom Park where both the suitcase and the trolley bag was opened to find some clothes in it.
The bags contain few pairs of clothes and an ID card recovered.We are verifying the details and also analysing to identify the owners of the bags.
We are trying to know who kept them there and why. Both the places where the suspicious bags were kept are not covered by CCTVs. It looks like a deleberate act as no one has come to claim the baggage, a senior police officer, added.
