Kannada cinema’s reigning star and celebrity television host Puneeth Rajkumar,known for films such as Appu , “Veera Kannadiga” and Maurya”, died here on Friday following a massive heart attack, hospital said. He was 46.
Restless crowds of stunned fans milled around the hospital complex as news came in of the sudden death of the actor,the son of much loved matinee idol Rajkumar who fast outgrew his father’s shadow to carve a place all his own in the Kannada showbiz industry.
Puneeth Rajkumar,46,one of the marquee names of Kannada film industry and the youngest of the five children of matinee idol Dr.Rajkumar passed away on October 29 after suffering cardiac arrest in the morning.
Revenue Minister R.Ashok announced the demise of the actor at Vikram Hospital, Bengaluru.
As soon as the demise of Powerstar Puneeth Rajkumar declared officially Senior officers with other staff were on field to make sure no untoward incident takes place in the city.Heavy police force was deployed across city,CAR,KSRP, platoons were stationed in major roads and additional Garuda force and Rapid Action Force will be deployed for precautionary measures.
Many shops were forcefully got closed by mischief mongers across city in some areas the pro Kannada organization members even pulled the shutters down on their own and which has created fear among general public.
Almost all the shops and establishments were closed completely and many areas were in deserted look.
Commissioner of police,Kamal Pant issued a order banning sale of liquor with immediate effect till 31st October midnight.
Puneeth Rajkumar is survived by his wife Ashwini Revanth and two daughters Drithi and Vanditha.
Dr. Ranganath Naik of Vikram Hospital said, “Puneeth Rajkumar complained of chest pain in the morning and was rushed to the private clinic of his family physician where an ECG test was done.
It showed a heart attack and he was immediately rushed to Vikram Hospital.When he was brought to the hospital, there was no cardiac activity.We put him on a ventilator and tried to revive him,but all efforts failed.”
Mr.Ashok said the last rites of the actor will be performed on October 30, and the details will be finalised after discussions with the family.
He appealed to the actor’s fans not to become emotional and maintain peace. His mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at Kanteerava Stadium.
The last rites for Rajkumar are scheduled for Sunday, October 31, according to his brother Raghavendra Rajkumar.Security arrangements have been made in front of the late actor’s house
Everyone from political leaders, members of the film industry, celebrities, fans and others sent condolences, expressing their shock at the actor’s sudden and untimely death.

Fellow South Indian actress Pooja Hegde also wrote,Cannot believe what I’m hearing.”
“Life is so unpredictable.Such a big loss for Indian Cinema. Sending out loads of love and light to his family and loved ones in these difficult times. R.I.P Puneeth Rajkumar,” she added
“Apart from the shocking tragedy that Puneeth Rajkumar’s sudden death is, it is also a scary and terrifying eye opening truth that any of us can die anytime,” said filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma.
Film personalities like Kamal Hassan, Lakshmi Manchu, Boney Kapoor, and cricketers Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag and Venkatesh Prasad also mourned the death of Rajkumar.
Fellow actors Darshan,Ravichandran and Yash, filmmaker Yograj Bhat and politicians, including former Chief Minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy, were among those who visited the hospital.
KPCC president D.K.Shivakumar, who is a neighbour of the Rajkumar family, said Puneeth was wholly invested in films and a few hobbies. He did not succumb to efforts to draw him towards politics.
Condolences continue to pour in for the death of Puneeth Rajkumar
Chief Minister,Basavaraj Bommai said despite all attempts to revive the actor, he couldn’t be saved. “His family and the entire state is sad today. He achieved a lot at a young age. He even called me yesterday and today we were supposed to meet to discuss the launch of the website for November 1 (Karnataka Rajyotsava),” he said.

Condoling the death of Puneet Rajkumar, State BJP President and Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel said the actor’s untimely death has shocked people at large. While asking God to give strength to family members and fans to bear with the loss, Mr. Kateel asked people to maintain peace during this time of grief.
An emotional Raghavendra Rajkumar told media, “He ensured that a pacemaker was put for me so that I could live longer. But he went before me. He has left behind a huge responsibility on me.”
Former CM B. S. Yediyurappa also said the passing of the actor was unfortunate. “He was a well loved actor who started acting at a young age,” he said.
