Bengaluru girl loses battle for life 701 days in Coma after tree branch fell on head in TC palya

After being in coma for 701 days 10 year old Rachel Prisha who sustained injuries and treated at Manipal hospital succumbed on Thursday.

Rachel was heading to her school on March 11 2020 with her father,Raju Y on scooter when a dry branch fell on her head on TC Palya Main Road.

She was rushed to Manipal hospital for treatment and since then she was slipped into coma.

The KR Puram police have filed a negligence complaint against BBMP officials,a senior officer said,promising action.

The then Mayor M Goutham Kumar visited the girl at hospital and promised to pay the medical expenses.

The issue was also disccused during the zero hour in legislative council and the members demanded pruning of the roadside trees to prevent further damaged and necessary help for the victim.

sources in the hospital said that Rachel was aged eight years when she was admitted to Manipal Hospital on 11th March 2020.

She was initially treated in nearby hospital and referred to Manipal Hospital for further care.Her condition was critical and she was managed in Pediatric ICU.

She was stabilized after multiple neurosurgical procedures and prolonged medical management in ICU.

Later she was shifted to high dependency unit where she underwent intensive neuro-rehabilitation treatment.

Even with the best of the care,her recovery was very poor and she continued to be in persistent vegetative state.

She was completely dependent on care givers for all her activities of daily living.Her stay in the hospital was complicated by multiple episodes of severe sepsis and repeated ICU admissions.

She recently developed severe chest infection and sepsis.Ms Rachel Prischa succumbed to the infection on 10.02.22 the hospital management said.
