The Central Cyber Crime police on Thursday arrested a 27-year-old high school dropout from Indi town of Vijayapura for blackmailing a city based woman with her private pictures and extorted a ransom of Rs 50,000 from her .
The accused has been identified as,Prashanth Rajashekhar is a habitual offender arrested in similar offence earlier and jailed .
After coming out of bail,the accused continued his activities,luring and blackmailing a 30-year-old woman from Sheshadripuram .
explaining the modus operandi, Senior officer told reporters, the accused would make ransom calls and started chatting with a gullible woman.
Claiming to be rich and working in a private company,the accused would befriend women and share private photos and videos after promising them to marry.
Soon after getting the private photos and videos the accused would blackmail them demanding ransom and threaten to post it on social media if they failed to pay .
The victim,fearing that she will be exposed,paid Rs 50,000 online but when the accused started demanding for more she narrated the incident with his family before filing a complaint.
Based on the complaint,the CEN police inspector Kumaraswamy and his team tracked down the accused through his mobile phone and arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Finally Bengaluru police commissioner,Kamal Pant has appreciated Addl CP West,Sandeep Patil,DCP,Central,MN Anucheth,PI,Kumarswamy and his team who has done a excellent work in nabbing the notorious blackmailer and a suitable reward will be given to the team he added.
