Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence busted an international drug racket at Bengaluru Airport and seized Amphetamine worth Rs 40 lakh was concealed inside a vintage modelled wall clock that was booked on air courier to be shipped to Saudi Arabia.
A senior officer told,The drugs weighing 500 gm was booked by a person from Tamilnadu with a fake name and address of the sender .
However the officials are analyzing the CCTV footage to identify the accused and track him down .
Based on a tip off,the Bengaluru Unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials swoop down the cargo section of Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and conducted a thorough check on Thursday evening .
After several hours of combing operation the team spotted a large wall clock that appeared to be a vintage model that was booked to be sent to Saudi Arabia by someone from Tamilnadu.
Following suspicion,they opened the side portion of the wall clock to recover a package placed inside after concealing with brown duct tape.
They cut it open to unearth a white crystal like substance which a lab test later determined as Amphetamine,a stimulant used as a recreational drug.
The clock carried half a kilo of the contraband which is estimated to be worth Rs 40 lakh in the international market,a release from the DRI said.
The DRI officials also alerted the counterparts at Saudi Arabia to trap the receiver .
