The Session court on Friday convicted a history sheeter in a attempt to murder case reported in 2015 and sentenced him to undergo seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.
Senior officer told reporters,The convict,Muniraju,a notorious history sheeter of south division having over 24 criminal cases pending against him had attempted to kill Venkatesh,a residents of Banashankari after he refused to help Muniraju to bail him out .
Muniraju,also associates of a gangster Kulla Rizwan had committed 13 criminal cases around the city in a single day in the year 2017.
Though the accused were arrested and remanded to judicial custody, they would get out on bail and continue criminal activities unabated due to proper monitoring and lack of resources from the prosecution and the police .
In order to contain the problem,the south division police set up court monitoring cell to keep a track on the cases pertaining o the rowdies on daily basis and ensure speedy trail and required protection of the witness to depose before the court against the accused without fear or pressure .
There are around 663 criminal cases pending against the rowdies since the last 14 years and these cases will now on be monitored by a dedicated team regularly till it reached its logical conclusion,Harish Pandey DCP,South division, who started the cell,said .
A police officer of the rank of ASI and PSI at each police station level has been assigned to monitor the cases pertaining to the rowdies and coordinate with the prosecution and also ensure required help,counselling and protections to the witnesses.
Due to this the case are getting fast hearing dates and to reach the logical end,he added .
