The DJ Halli police on Saturday shot at Mohammed Awez,22,a rowdy sheeter who escaped from the police custody after attacking a police constable who is part of the team which went to secure his arrest.
The accused has been identified as, Mohammed Aweiz,22.
Senior officer told media persons,a rape case was registered against the accused and was arrested by the DJ Halli police while escorting him to medical test he attacked the police party and escaped.
Special teams were formed by PI,DJ Halli,Kiran Kumar under the leadership of DCP,East, Dr Bheemashankar S Guled,the team who were on search received a tip off that the rape accused was seen moving in Veeranapalya main road.
As soon as the beat constable passed the information to inspector,Kiran Kumar he along with his staff swung into action.
Inspector Kiran Kumar,and his team surrounded the place and started combing the area.
Police Contable Arun Kumar spotted Awez and tried to nab him,but in a bid to escape Awez attacked Arun Kumar with a dagger and tried to flee.
Inspector,Kiran Kumar warned Awez by firing one round in air as he dint heed to warning and again tried to attack inspector in self defense he later shot at his left leg to stop him from fleeing.
The accused along with the injured constable were shifted to hospital and both were said to be out of danger.
The accused after escaping from the police custody was hiding at an isolated place.
Awez,a machanic at a puncture repair shop was involved in 28 criminal cases since the last seven years and was jailed for at least 10 times for extortion and robbery cases .
Every time he gets out on bail and continue his criminal activities .
He was expelled from the city in July last year , but the accused returned to city and raped a woman after barging into the house while her husband was away to work a case of attempt to murder has been registered and further investigation is on.

Dr Bheemashankar S Guled,PI,Kiran Kumar and his staff as,Arun Kumar and others has been appreciated for the commendable job done by them who were part of operation and a suitable reward will be given to the team who has risked their life in nabbing the dreaded accused he added.
