New Delhi, 25th April 2022: It took two years to get back to life, to return to the pulsating stage and to live audiences for Natya Vriksha’s World Dance Day Celebrations 2022, held over the weekend at the India International Centre, New Delhi. The annual culturally rich dance extravaganza couldn’t take place due to the pandemic, but the renowned classical dancer Geeta Chandran, who is known for her never say never attitude has once again resumed her highly popular World Dance Day Celebrations. Organized in collaboration with the India International Centre, the 2022 edition had loads of dance for dance enthusiasts, patrons, and connoisseurs. It had interesting dance workshops, a national seminar, a celebration of a major dance website completing 30 years and the unique Young Dancers Festival curated by Padmashri Geeta Chandran herself.
The two day extravaganza commenced with a Koodiyattam Workshop led by upcoming practitioner Kalamandalam Dr. n of their phenomenal performance.
Geeta Chandran’s star disciple Sowmya Laxmi Narayanan proved that she was a chip of the old block; with nimble execution and perfection in her adavus, Sowmya’s Aldian Dance webportal narthaki.com. Founded by Dr Anita Ratnam, narthaki.com is in its 30th year, and it is truly the gateway to the world of Indian dance. This segment featured founder of Narthaki, Dr. Anita Ratnam in conversation with Padamapriya, Dancer/Actor/Activist.
The 15th Edition of NatyaVriksha’s World Dance Day Celebrations concluded with heartthrob presentation of Odissi dance by Lipsa Satapathy and scintillating Kathak by Abhimanyu Lal. Watching these two dance performances, the audience were left asking for more. One could feel what we had missed in the last two years – the sheer magic of live performances, fawning audiences and the total sync between them. The Young Dancer’s Festival was also broadcast to world audiences via Metaverse.
The two day festival was attended by who’s who of Delhi’s corporate, art & culture circle.
