The Amruthahalli police on Saturday arrested a 36-year-old man who stolen a SUV from a city based businessman on the pretext of buying.
The accused kept a tab on the commercial online site where vehicles are put up on sale and contacted Ravindra Iluri through a stolen mobile phone with an offer to buy the car .
The accused drove away the SUV on the pretext of test drive and escaped on January 30 .
Based on the complaint when the police tried to track down the accused through mobile phone, they found that it was stolen and a complaint has been filed in Bagaluru police station.
A technical team led by Amruthahalli police inspector, Guruprasad,had only option to track the accused through the OLX IP address and hard work paid off when the police finally managed to zero in on M G Venkatesh Naik, who works as maintaining man at a residential apartment in the city .
It was a herculean task as the police team got over 2,500 IP address which was checked one by one before zeroing in on the accused to a residential apartment in the city where he was working.
A detailed questioning led him to confess to the crime,Inspector, said.Based on his confession the police recovered the car and a mobile phone which he had stolen and used for the crime.
Investigations revealed that Venkatesh was also involved in a house break theft in 2011 and using the money he had purchased a SUV.
The accused wanted his wife to contest in a village panchayath election in Bagepalli and sold his car to fund for the election expenses .
However she lost in the election and Venkatesh incurred huge loss and also lost his car.
Since for the last one year,he was planning to steal the same make and color of the car he was using,which was put up on sale in OLX.
After checking the Olx for many days,he came across Mr.Ravindra’s car which on up for sale and contacted him with a stolen phone,the police. said .
