Install Speed governors in garbage trucks Traffic police to BBMP

oncerned over growing number of fatal accidents involving BBMP garbage trucks,the traffic police asked the BBMP officials to install speed governors at their vehicles to contain the rash and negligent driving .

Dr.BR Ravikanthe Gowda,Joint commissioner of police (traffic) said that the speed limits of the garbage trucks has been limited to 40 km per hour in the city limits and the traffic police at the jurisdictional level have been directed to conduct regular checks and conduct special drives.

The truck drivers have already been trained on safe driving and traffic rules in batches at the designated training centres .

As many as 40 drivers as part of first batch have completed the training and have shown drastic changed on the driving skills and traffic discipline,Mr.Gowda, said .

The training will be on how to drive safe at the school zones,residential areas and silent zones, where and how to park and follow rules accordingly.

The jurisdictional traffic police have been directed to keep a tab on the drivers and take necessary measures,he added.

It may be recalled that on a day after BBMP truck run over on a 40-year-old woman SBI employee at Nayandahalli junction in April 19,the traffic police across city launched special drive and seized nine vehicles for failing to provide the same.Another 307 garbage trucks were booked for traffic violations in a single day.

The traffic police have also advised to ensure all garbage trucks are fit and fine and advised them to install speed governors compulsorily if not vehicles will be seized
