The Northeast cyber crime police while pursuing a cyber fraud detained a 26-year-old Ghana national who was not only overstaying in the city but also running cyber frauds to cheat people online.
The accused has been identified as, Samuel Christian,a resident of Ghana.
Senior officer told reporters Based on a complaint,the police inspector Santhosh Ram and his team swung into action and track down the accused through the technical inputs and other police investigation skills and with the bank account details he was operating and intercepted motorcycle he was riding and detained him for questioning.
probe revealed that the accused Samuel Christian,was overstaying in the city after expiry of his travel documents and running the racket .
He along with his associates borrowed debit cards and bank details from two persons in Tripura and using them to divert the fraud money into the account.
This is to hoodwink the police investigations as even though police could track down the bank account the owner of the account are not aware of his activities,a police officer said.
The accused would also borrow the SIM cards in the names of the different people using them to cheat people online.
The modus operandi is that the accused would cheat people using different methods including offering them online jobs,luring them with lottery money and updating KYC.
The money would then be diverted to the bank accounts belonging to two persons in Tripura whose debit card,the accused was using .
The accused was also suspected to be paying some money to the bank account holders for using their account,which is being investigated,a police officer,said.
A case has been registered against the accused under Foreigners Act and cheating with other IPC sections.
It may be recalled that the newly assumed city police commissioner C H Pratap Reddy in his first meeting with the senior officers directed them to focus on Foreigners illegal stay and cyber crimes.
Finally Bengaluru Police Commissioner,C H Pratap Reddy has appreciated Addl CP East,A subramanyeshwara Rao,DCP Northeast,Dr Anoop A Shetty,PI,Santhosh Ram R,PSI,Raman Gowda,and staff as,Ramesh,Oblesh and Shashikala who has done commendable job in detecting the case and nabbing the Ghana National who was over staying in India after visa expiry and indulged in cheating people a suitable reward will be given to whole team he added.
