Officials of the food and civil supplies department on Wednesday busted a racket and seized a truck smuggling rice to a mill situated in the outskirts of the city .
Based on a tip off a team of officials led by Gangadhar Swamy S, Deputy Director intercepted the truck on Suranjan das road on old Madras road and found that the driver was carrying 18 quintals of Rice meant for PDS distribution which was packed in 45 Plastic Bags of Rice Weight:40 Kg each total worth Rs three lakh.
The driver Akbar Pasha along with the truck has been handed over to Baiyyapanahalli police for further investigations.
According to the officials this incident is part of the ongoing racket of PDS rice scam, where racketeers buy rice from the BPL card holders and also from the fair price shop owners to sell it to the rice mill owners, who in turn polish the rice and sell in it open market for a higher price .
