The Sudduguntepalya police on Saturday arrested a 48-year-old habitual offender and recovered 54 bicycles worth Rs.6 lakh from him.
The accused is a habitual offender involved in several house break thefts and later started stealing bicycles which he could easily target than house breaks .
Senior officer told reporters,that the accused was arrested based on a theft complaint of cycle theft registered on May 9.
The complainant son Aditya had parked his bicycle inside the compound and went home when the accused escaped with the cycle.
The Sudduguntepalya police inspector and his Crime team based on the complaint,verified the CCTV from in and around the area and identify the accused and arrested him.
Based on his confession the police recovered 54 bicycles of different companies including the expensive bicycles which are prices as high as 60,000 were stolen by him from in and around the city and sold it to his contacts for Rs.3,000 to Rs. 4,000.
With his arrest the police so far solved 10 bicycle theft cases reported in Madiwala and Sudduguntepalya police station limits.
However the police are further investigating to trace the owners of the bicycles based on the complaints registered in and around the city.
