A s part of the the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,the Bengaluru city police on Sunday destroyed 4353 kgs of synthetic drugs seized by the police between August 2021 to June 2022, worth Rs.41.8 crore .
Elaborating on the drive against the drugs,City police commissioner CH Pratap Reddy, said that since the last one and half years the city police have cracked a whip on cases related to drug peddling and 6271 cases and 8015 persons including 186 foreign nationals involved in peddling and consumptions under various sections of NDPS act.
The city has becoming a transit point for the drugs,Mr.Reddy said that the Anti-Narcotics Wing and the jurisdictional police have been able to bust the major sources of the drugs coming to city from neighboring states of Telangana, Odisha,Andhra Pradesh,West Bengal,Assam , Delhi,Punjab,Maharastra,Kerala and Goa.
Citing some of the important cases,Mr.Reddy, recalled how the city police have busted a Narco lab in the city run by a foreign national from his rented houses to manufacture MDMA.
The police have also busted many cases of drug smuggling where the peddlers used dark web to buy drugs using crypto currency and peddling the drugs through dunzo and swiggy services in the city.
The city police also set up a 1908 toll free number for people to alert about the drug use or share any related information.
The police have also launched awareness programs at schools and colleges,residential areas and slums to inform about the ill effect of drugs .
The land owners have also been informed to collect the copies of the travel documents while renting out their premises and inform the jurisdictional police.This will help the police to keep a tab he added.
