Police Sub Inspector Avinash and Constable Anil Kumar are among the three persons killed and two others injured when the SUV rammed into a divider before turning turtle near at Kottakoota railway underpass in Pootalapattu town of Chittoor district in the wee hours of Sunday.
The victims attached to Shivajinagar police station were pursing a NDPS case to track down the peddlers who had supplied Marijuana to a local peddler Syed Tousif,20-year-old Tousif,a labourer by profession and resident of Yarub Nagar was arrested by Inspector Ravikumar M C, while he was selling drugs to his contacts Near CSI Hospital Compound,Station Road,closed to the station on Saturday.
Based on his information,a team of police led by Avinash,Dikshith,(probationary PSI),Bhakta Kumar ASI,and constables,Mir Abdul Hasan, Abdul Rahman,Sharana Basappa,Anil Mulik and Shivappa Kalagi along with an informant linked to the peddlers,hired two cabs and left to Chittoor to nab the peddlers .
While Avinash,Dikshith,Sharana Basappa and Anil Mulik boarded a SUV,the others got into another vehicle and headed to the destination.
The incident occurred in the wee hours when the driver identified as Maxwell driving in high speed , suspected to have dozed off and collided with the median while negotiating underpass .
Due to the impact the car toppled and damaged badly crushing five of them .
Passers-by who noticed the accident rushed to the help and using the injured phone called the other police team going ahead and were trying to get the victims out of the car.
Meanwhile the other team hearing the accident news,while rushing back developed technical snag,but someone managed to reach the accident spot and joined the rescue work.
The victims have been shifted to the near-by hospital where doctors declared Avinash and Anil and maxwell as brought dead.
The injured Dikshith,Probationary PSI and constable Sharana Basappa were being treated at the Vellore hospital.
Dikhshith sustained fracture injury on his right hand and has been shifted to Hosmat hospital while Sharana Basappa was being treated at the Vellore hospital and said to be out of danger.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Pulakeshinagar sub division camped in the hospital to overseas the treatment of the injured and also coordinating with the Vellore counterparts for the investigations.
The deceased PSI Avinash,29,native of Bidar joined the service three years ago and residing in a rented house in Bagalagunte,While Anil Mulik, 26 hailed from Jamakhandi,residing in Halasuru police quarters .
Hiring private cabs for sensitive and outdoor assignments are matter of concern for the police, but the police had no option.For thing kinds of operations any investigating agency hire private cabs and depend upon the agency for a reliable and experienced driver,as taking government vehicles may be risky.But this case the driver error led to the accident .
Though the shivaji Nagar police station functioning normal there was a blanket of gloom.
Dr Bheemashankar S Guled,DCP,East Division, shocked hearing the news and termed it as most unfortunate .
The department is with the families of the policemen who laid their live in the line of duty and ensure all necessary help,he added.

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra termed it as most unfortunate incident.I have called the senior police officials directing them to provide the all help to the families of the policemen and the injured policemen the best treatment,he said.
