Abhijit Ray, Kolkata: The traditional 131st Durand Cup football tournament (Durand Cup 2022) was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Chief Minister went to Kolkata’s Yuva Bharati Sports Complex along with States Sports Minister Arup Biswas for inauguration & various events are held in the field for an hour. The kickoff of the opening match was at 6 pm.This time, last time’s champions FC Goa and one of Kolkata’s leading Mahamedan Sporting are facing each other. Chief Minister has meet the players of both the teams during the opening ceremony before the start of the game. The new seasons jersey was unveiled on the same day too. ManyEx-footballers and other distinguished guests were present in this event. The Indian Army personnel has performed to the tune of the tournament theme sung by singers. The opening ceremony ended with the FIFA theme song. Supporters are given free tickets for the first match. Mohammedan Sporting Club has also given a surprise in their team’s new jersey. The jersey is dedicated to the Indian Armed Forces. The jersey also has an image of the soldiers.
