Gujarat: Indian Coast guard Air Station Daman conducted a Maritime Search and Rescue (MSAR-22) Workshop on 26 Aug 22. The workshop witnessed participants from the Airport authority of India, INCOIS (Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services), Department of Disaster Management and Port Control Management of administration of daman. The chief guest for the event was Dr. Tapasya Raghav, IAS, Collector Daman.
In his inaugural address, Commanding Officer, Coast Guard Air Station, Daman said that Indian Coast Guard has the overall responsibility for coordinating as well as execution of M-SAR responsibilities in the Indian Search and Rescue Region (ISRR) extending to 4.6 million square kilometers. With a focus on the humanitarian nature of work, the Indian Coast Guard cooperates with other agencies to develop and sponsor vital standards and recommendations to provide all types of assistance to the maritime distress situation and coordination on a daily basis. Since the inception of Indian Coast Guard as National Maritime SAR Coordinating Authority (NMSARCA) in 1978, Indian Coast Guard has rescued more than 11,000 lives out at sea and aided civil authorities in rescuing more than 12,000 lives.
The workshop was structured into sessions and guest lectures were given by various stakeholders including lectures on SARAT (Search and Rescue Aid Tool) by Dr. Vijay from INCOIS. GADSS (Global Aeronautical Distress and Safety System) and Aeronautical Search and Rescue by Mr. Praveen Khadataar, Overview of GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) and role of helicopters in search and rescue by Coast Guard Officer’s. The workshop was aimed to identify the gaps between the expectations and capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard in co-ordination with various stake holders and towards this, this workshop will provide varied perspectives from the various M-SAR stakeholders.
