Center latest advisory for students

: The central government has given several suggestions to Indian students who want to pursue medical education in China. It warned about the problems faced by students going to that country for medical education, such as strict regulations, decreasing pass percentage, and language. To this extent, the Indian Embassy in Beijing has issued a latest advisory.

Thousands of Indian students who returned from China during the corona virus have been stuck in their country for two years due to the strict restrictions imposed by the Dragon. It is estimated that their number is more than 23 thousand. Most of them are medical students. China recently started the process of renewing visas for some of them. But, as of now there are no direct flights to China, so the students are facing problems. On the other hand, Chinese medical colleges have started admissions for new students from India and abroad. In this order, the Indian Embassy in Beijing has issued several instructions to the students. It mainly mentioned the difficulties faced by Indian students who went to study in China.

Students who have done medicine in China have to pass the Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) examination to practice in India. Between 2015 and 2021, 40,417 students who studied clinical medicine programs in China appeared for the FMG exam, but only 6,387 passed. That means only 16 percent qualified to practice in India. Students who want to take admission in Chinese universities and their parents should note this.

Only 45 medical colleges are recognized by the government in China. These offer a medical degree with five years of study and one year of internship. The Chinese government has made it clear in its official announcement that foreign students who want to study medicine in English should join only these 45 universities. Indian students should not take admission in any university other than these.

Foreign students are not allowed to join universities that teach in Chinese. You should not join universities that teach medical education in both English and Chinese.

Further, it is mandatory for foreign students to learn Chinese language for clinical sessions. Therefore, every student should learn Chinese at least up to HSAK-4 level. Students who do not pass the language test will not be awarded a medical degree.

Indian students practicing medicine in China are required to obtain a license to practice there after completing their studies. After completing the internship, one has to pass the China Medical Qualification Exam and obtain a certificate to practice in China. Only then, there is a chance to appear for the qualifying examination in India.

According to the National Medical Commission Regulations dated 18th November 2021.. a student who has studied medicine abroad must obtain a license to practice in the country where they completed their studies before appearing for the FMG examination in India.

Further, students who want to do medicine in China also have to clear the NEET-UG exam in India. Only those students who clear this exam are eligible to take the FMG exam after completing their studies.

•  China is currently following a zero covid policy due to covid. Due to this, the quarantine regulations and restrictions are different in each city. Students who want to go there must know all of them. Fees and visa regulations in universities should also be known clearly in advance.
