Today-Amaravati, Newstoday – NTR University: The state government will introduce an amendment bill in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, changing the name of Dr. NTR Health University to Dr. YSR Health University. Dr. NTR Health University Amendment (2022) Bill will be introduced by the Minister of Health and Medical Affairs. At that time, all the medical and dental colleges in the state were under the universities of the respective districts. Degrees were awarded to students through them. In 1983, when NT Rama Rao was the Chief Minister, he examined the universities in the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and decided to have a separate university for medical education. On November 1, 1986, a health university was established in the name of AP University of Health Sciences. At that time Vijayawada Siddhartha Vaidya College was a private college. Medical, Dental, Nursing, The University started its activities with 26 institutions which are Para Medical Colleges. On 1 November 2000, the university was shifted from Siddhartha Medical College to a new block (the present building of the university) due to the massive increase in medical courses colleges and affiliated colleges in the state. During the Chandrababu government, the name of the university was changed to NTR Arogya University on January 8, 1998 through a special gazette notification. On January 8, 2006, the then YSR Govt renamed it as Dr. NTR Health University. NTR’s statue was unveiled on 1 November 2011 by his daughter, then Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Daggubati Purandeshwari, on the occasion of the University’s Silver Festival (1986-2011).
