Abhijit Ray, Kolkata:Durga Puja begins in West Bengaland on the auspicious occasion on Maha Ashtami, the entire state is being decorated with colorful lights. OnMahashtami, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and All India Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee extended their greetings to the people of the state.In Bengal, Durga Ashtami or Maha Ashtami is one of the auspicious days of the five-day Durga Puja festival celebrated in honor of Mother Goddess Durga. Traditionally, this festival is observed for 10 days in Hindu households, but the actual puja held in the ‘Pandel’ is held for 5 days. It is for this Ashtami evening that most of the revelers pick up their favorite puja attire. On Sunday, a wave of enthusiasm has swept over the city and rural Bengal on AsthamiTithi. The different districts have also kept pace with Kolkata metropolis. A perfect reflection of heritage of Bengal has emerged.In north Kolkata, few of the biggest pujas are of SribhumiSporting’s Club, Kalindi Plot Owners Associations etc. Today morning, Mr. Sujit Bose – the Fire and Emergency Services Minister of Government of Werst Bengal was distribution Puja Prasad’s to devotees. Around twenty thousand devotees had taken the prasad of Goddess Durga. Durga puja is biggest fest in India ”. It is celebrated across India with blending version of local culture and can labeled as one of the biggest festivals in India.
