Harpa Ban strikes at Malbazar River, Jalpaiguri as Ma Durga’s Visarjan time – eight died

Abhijit Ray, Kolkata:Many people are affected by terrible accidents while disposing of Goddess Durga Idol.Thousands of people gathered to sacrifice the idol. Almost in the middle of the river, many people were busy in burying idols. Just then Harpa Ban came down the river. And that’s why many people fell. Fatal accident during idol immersion in Mal River in Duars. Many people were swept away in the Harpa Ban. The death toll has risen to eight. At least 40 people are stuck in a place like a pasture in the middle of the river. Police and firemen have started rescue operations at the spot. So far eight people have died in Harpa Ban in Malbazar of Jalpaiguri at West Bengal. Many are missing till now. Rescue work is going on. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief over this incident. She has announced to pay Rs 2 lakh to the relatives of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.The Chief Minister said, “Condolences to the families of the victims of the Harpa Ban incident in the Mal River. We stand by them in this difficult situation. 13 people are undergoing treatment at Mal Super Specialty Hospital. It has been possible to rescue 70 people so far. The Chief Minister also said, “Financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the families of the deceased. 50 thousand rupees will be given to the injured.At the same time, the Chief Minister also said that the national and state disaster response forces are still carrying out rescue operations. About 70 people were rescued with the help of police, civil defense personnel and local youth. No one else is missing. He even gave a message to everyone to work together in this difficult time.
