Strict traffic enforcement as part of the short term goals to be launched by the traffic police inside the university campus from immediate effect.
A marathon meeting attended by,Kuldeep Kumar R Jain,DCP traffic west,DCP West division, Laxman B Nimbargi along with civic agency officials and University officials chalked out short medium and long term plans.
DCP West,Laxman B Nimbargi said CCTV cameras with additional CCTV cameras will be installed and a command centre will be set up to monitor anti social activities in the 1100 acre of campus and we have requested to form a committee to monitor the university campus.
Elaborating on the short term plans,Mr.Jain,said that enforcement,engineering and security are the main focus to begin with.
This will includes, CCTV cameras,additional 150 barricades,studs,as,Rumbling stripes,Campus illumination to entire campus, formation of Student safety security committee has been approved .
This is going to be taken up at war footing level and will be in place by the end of next month, he said.
All short term measures are taken into consideration.Like rumbling strips at every hump, reinstall all 28 humps where all were installed earlier, improvement of illumination,putting 100 barricades across the strategic locations of the campus to maintain minimum speed,installing sensor cameras to monitor all vehicle movement to record all entry and exit at gates,conducting special drives,like drunken drive and ransom checks and monitoring vehicles at the entry and exit gates .
The plan is also to constitute student safety committee within campus including teachers and students as like other sexual harassment prevention committee and anti ragging committees.
The meeting also contemplated hiring,home guards,retired policemen and army personnel to provide security cover and conduct regular checks at the campus to monitor law and order .
The six kilometer radius of the campus will be fenced and compounded .
The mid term plans includes restricting the movement of vehicles and later proceeding with stopping of public vehicles by fixing timings like from morning 6am to 8pm and providing alternative road facilities should arrange for residents living in the neighbouring area. (This will bring to attention of government) and will be solved soon.
welcoming the move,the students withdraw the protest.Dr.Jayakara.S.M,Vice Chancellor, Bangalore University told media persons the Wednesday’s meeting with Police department, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), University teaching and non-teaching associations and Student association is fruitful.
We will implement the traffic and security measures in three stages.Completely ban on private and public vehicles in the university campus is highly impossible.
Our first priority is traffic control in the university campus and the police department is take the necessary steps.”
The injured student health is recovering day by day and the complete cost of the treatment will be covered by BMTC.
The discussion about submit a proposal to the government to building flyover or peripheral ring road in the university was also taken place.
But,the decision will be taken by only either State government or BBMP.The students leaders also demanding for battery vehicle or mini vehicle for travel to one department to other department.
The University will consider this demand.The injured one is our student and we will support up to her life at any cost,” he promised.
Protesting Students representative said that,We are satisfied with the University and other officers promise.
They agreed to implement all the traffic and security measures in the campus, with in a month. Otherwise, the protest will be taken place.”
