The Kudur police on Sunday cracked the suicide case of 45-year-old Basavalinga Swami of Kunchagal Bande Mathon last week .
Basavalinga Swamy,44,the head pontiff of the Kanchugal Bandemutt,was found dead in his room when devotees broke open the door of the room.
The seer had left behind a suicide note with the names of few people,which was corroborated by the police with the technical evidence before arresting Mruthunjaya Swami,45,of Kannur Mutt along with his accomplice identified as Neelambika,an engineering student and a school teacher turned advocate Mahadevaiah,for conspiracy and executing the blackmail plan. which led the seer to take the extreme step, K.Santosh Babu,Superintendent of Police, Ramanagar district,heading the investigation , said .
The accused Mruthunjaya Swami is heading a mutt close to the mutt of the deceased seer and was his cousin,a police officer, said .
The motive according to the police investigation is to defame Basavalinga swami and throw him out since he was close to the chief of the mutts.
As per the plan,Mruthunjaya Swami roped in Mahadevaiah and got introduced Neelambika to Basavalinga Swami in March this year .
As per the plan Neelambika became close and the duo used to have private chats,where she would record the conversation and send it to Mahadevaiah.
The duo would edit the video clips and later started sending it to Swami ji and the administrators of the Mutt to defame him.They also blackmailed Swami which led him to take the extreme step .
The accused are now being booked under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and section 201,(Causing disappearance of evidence of offence)for further investigations .
The police have taken the accused into custody for further questioning to ascertain the possible role of others in the crime.
