Navanna asked report related to the current condition of all hanging bridges of West Bengal

Abhijit Ray, Kolkata: Navanna took special precautionary measures in the wake of the horrific bridge accident in Gujarat. So far 141 people have been reported dead in the terrible bridge disaster in Morbi district of Gujarat on Sunday. The death toll is still expected to rise. Nabannna is a building in the city of Howrah in Howrah district. Nabanna houses the temporary State Secretariat of the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located at Mandirtala, Shibpur. It was inaugurated on 5 October 2013 by Chief Minister of West Bengal,In that situation, Nabanna asked for an urgent report to know the condition of the hanging bridges in the state of West Bengal. The report has been directed to be submitted by Tuesday.According to Nabanna sources, some districts including Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Darjeeling have suspension bridges like the accident-prone bridge in Gujarat. The engineers of each district’s works department have been directed to send reports on them by Tuesday. At the same time, a report has been sought on the status of the airports in the state. Works Minister Pulak Roy is sitting in a meeting with the department’s engineers at 4 pm on Tuesday.Based on that report, the condition of various bridges will be reviewed, and a decision will be taken about the next step. The top officials of Nabanna along with the Minister of Works Pulak Roy are expected to attend the meeting of the Works Department on Tuesday. District engineers will attend this meeting virtually.Incidentally, at around 6:30 pm on Sunday evening, the hanging bridge over the Machu river in Gujarat suddenly collapsed. About 400 people were on the bridge when it collapsed. 141 people have died so far. Hundreds of people were injured. The bridge, built during the British period, was repaired last August.
