A motorcycle rider and his friend riding pillion were killed when an over speeding BBMP garbage truck knocked them down near Hulikunte cross on National Highway 207 near Doddaballapura on Monday evening.
The deceased are identified as Maruthi,28,and Mahesh,30,both were private firm employees and residents of Maralakunte village near Nelamangala taluk.
Preliminary investigation by the police it is said that the incident occurred at around 4.30 pm,when the deceased were returning to their village after visiting a temple in Madhure village.
The BBMP garbage truck after dumping the garbage in MSGP waste tech park,Chigurenahalli was moving in the opposite direction.The truck hit the bike head-on.
When the duo fell on the road the truck ran over them.The duo sustained severe injuries and died at the spot.
Senior officer told reporters the Local police were informed about the accident from local residents. They gathered at the spot and staged a protest against the garbage truck and driver for rash driving.
The protesters also demanded that the garbage waste processing centre be shut down.The villagers staged the protest with the bodies on the road for sometime causing traffic disruption.
Additional police force have to be deployed to monitor law and order situation.Senior police officers rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors take necessary action.
