Three people including two women were killed while four others injured when the driver of the goods vehicle lost control and rolled into the gorge on Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway 75 in the wee hours of Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Manjunath, 31,Lakshmmamma,45 and Rathnamma,50 residents of Bellauru near Nagamangala.
The deceased along with three others travelling in a goods vehicle at around 1.30 am to go Dasanapura AMPC yard to get vegetables .
The victims are vendors used to go to AMPC to get the vegetables and sell them in their home town,a police said.
Probe revealed that the driver was drowsy and driving in a speed and negligent manner he lost control and fell into the george after rolling.While driver and three others travelling in the cabin escaped with minor injuries .
The trio sitting at the back of the goods van crushed to death after the vehicle rolled before landed in the gorge.
Passers-by noticed the accident informed the police who rushed to the spot shifted the victims to the hospital and later pulled out the vehicle with the help of crane.
The Kudur police have arrested the driver and charging him under death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving .
The driver was subjected to medical examination and ruled out that he was not drunk .
