Cyclone Mandous: Impact of Mandous: Heavy rains in AP.. Rivers overflowing

Chittoor, Nellore and Tirupati districts are experiencing heavy rains due to the impact of the cyclone. Rivers, creeks and bends are overflowing. Due to the impact of the storm, flood water is flowing on the roads in Tirupati.

Chittoor: Cyclone Mandaus, which formed in the west-central Bay of Bengal, crossed the coast at Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. After crossing the coast, it weakened into a severe cyclone, the IMD said. Gradually, it is likely to weaken and become a thunderstorm in the evening. As a result of this, heavy to very heavy rains are falling here and there in Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor, Annamaiya and Kadapa districts of Andhra Pradesh. Light to moderate rains are falling in some other areas. It has been clarified that light to moderate rains are likely to occur in many places tomorrow as well. The State Disaster Management Agency has said that people should be alert till tomorrow even though the storm has crossed the coast. Officials advised fishermen not to go hunting.

Chittoor, Nellore and Tirupati districts are experiencing heavy rains due to the impact of the cyclone. Rivers, creeks and bends are overflowing. Due to the impact of the storm, flood water is flowing on the roads in Tirupati. People are suffering due to inundation of low lying areas. KVBIpuram Mandal Srikalahasti-Pichhathuru road is flooded. Trees fell in Tirupati SV University. Swarnamukhi River in Srikalahasti Constituency is flooded on a large scale. Balayapalli Mandal’s Kadagunta Bridge has brought Kaivalya river to a standstill. Officials are removing broken trees on Lingasamudram road of Dakkili mandal. Kalangi Reservoir in KVBIPuram mandal is receiving heavy flood water. With this, ten gates of the project are being raised by 9 feet and 15 thousand cusecs of water is being released downstream.

CM Jagan’s review on the impact of the storm..

CM Jagan reviewed the impact of the storm. Talked to the CMO officials about the storm situation. The authorities were ordered to take all kinds of measures. He inquired about the impact of the storm in Coast Andhra and Rayalaseema districts. The authorities have been advised to pay special attention to the areas affected by the cyclone and the areas where heavy rain is predicted, and ensure that the people do not face any trouble there. Collectors of Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor and Annamaya districts have been directed to be constantly vigilant and take appropriate action. The Chief Minister instructed the authorities to open resettlement camps if necessary.
