A fierce war of words is going on between the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards over the next year’s Asia Cup (Asia Cup 2023). In this context, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also responded on the same issue.
“Tournaments will keep coming… but you should know the policies and attitude of the government. Let’s see what happens in the future. This is a difficult problem. If I put a gun to your head.. would you talk to me?. If your neighbors are openly supporting terrorism… who are the leaders there? Where the camps are located is a mystery. We should never think that cross-border terrorism is normal. Are there incidents of encouraging terrorists against neighboring countries anywhere else in the world? There is no such thing anywhere…so it is very unusual’ said Jai Shankar.
Talking about cricket..’You know our attitude towards cricket. If a country promotes terrorism, we should not accept it. If we don’t take action on this.. it will continue. So there should be global pressure on Pakistan. If the victims of terror attacks don’t make their voices heard, there will be no pressure on Pakistan. We will take the lead in putting pressure on that country. Because we have lost so much due to terrorism,’ said Jaishankar.
If we look at Jai Shankar’s latest comments, BCCI and Indian government seem to be of the same attitude in this matter. Due to this, it may not be possible for India to tour Pakistan next year. It is known that PCB chief Rameez Raza has already warned that if India does not tour Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, they too will not come to the ODI World Cup tour in India.
