Cyber Frauds on Prowl to trap you, Do not entertain unknown numbers claiming as customs officials or police Says Top CoP

Next time if u get a call from unknown numbers claiming as custom officials or police do not entertain the calls as the cyber frauds are on the prowl to trap u to extort money on threatening to file cases against you .

Such incidents are on the rise as the cyber crime police have registered two cases in the span of two days .

Garima Sanoria,30,a home maker from Sanjaynagar on Wednesday received a call from unknown number and the person claiming to be officer from custom and narcotics department .

The caller informed that there was a parcel in her name from Taiwan containing narcotics and suggested her to contact Cyber crime Mumbai crime branch police for any dispute .

Shocked Garima before could react,she gets another call from a person identifying himself as Naresh Gupta Bananji,from Mumbai cyber crime and started questioning her and even forwarded a notice .

Garima when trying to reason with him but the accused officer asked her Aadhar and bank details on the pretext of initiating legal action.

The officer later on the pretext of helping to bail out from the situation asked her to transfer a total of Rs.1.23 lakh online .

The cheating came to light when Ms.Garima shared the details with her family and relatives and tried to call back the numbers but it was not reachable .

Similarly,Nidhi AJ,a 26-year-old woman from Banashankari II stage,filed a complaint with the south division cyber crime police that she has been cheated by conman posing as Mumbai police.

In her complaint Ms.Nidhi said that she received a call from an unknown number informing that she has a parcel in her name from Taiwan.

Few minutes later she gets another call identifying himself as Mumbai police from Narcotics division informing that the parcel contained narcotics and threatened to file a case and extorted Rs.84,572 from her online to help her out.

The Cyber crime police are now trying to track down the accused based on the mobile numbers and the bank details .

People should not entertain such calls which claimed to be either from customs or from police , a police officials said .
